Today,the GNHM Botanical Collection numbers more than 80,000 samples and is extremely significant for the classification study of flora of Greece and of the Balkan Peninsula. It represents a valuable national capital, the country’s databanks, the basis for any scientific research and application in the sectors of environmental policy, agriculture and forestry.
The samples of the collection are the material from which various results may be drawn on contemporary as well as past natural environment.
In addition, they provide an excellent tool for the development of publishing and educational activities.
The database of the Botanical collection includes the data of over 70.000 specimens. These specimens are higher plants (ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms) from the Greek territory. The database also includes digital photos for 3500 of these specimens.
